Under California law, every employer has an obligation to provide a safe workplace, and every employee has an obligation to act safely. In principle, these obligations are simple. But in real world practice, they can be very complex. That’s why every employer in California is responsible for creating and maintaining an Injury and Illness Prevention Program, or IIPP. Creating and maintaining an IIPP helps an employer make sure they are doing everything they need to do to meet their safety and health obligations, including giving their employees all the information and tools they need to meet their safety obligations. This lesson provides the learner with an overview of the IIPP requirement and the employee, supervisor and employer responsibilities associated with it.
